“Don we now our gay apparel?” The better to tell stories in,   my dear. Excuse the mixed metaphor and come share something meaningful at our Dec. ALWAYS gathering.

Established writer, do you have a favorite mini story or holiday tradition to share? Don your favorite “ugly holiday sweater” and come share with us something book related, or simply meaningful to you, over a delicious meal. What better way for writers to get into the season’s spirit?

Here’s the usual agenda:
11:30 introductions with writing tips
11:50 order lunch
11:55 writing discussion/sharing
1 p.m. pay individual bills and adjourn (to go write!)

Next gathering:
Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
(ALWAYS typically meets on the second Thursday of the month.)

Where:
Romeo’s Euro Cafe

Calling all young writers, artists, and creatives…

This is a Call for Submissions for young writers and creatives (ages 15-ish to 25-ish)—and selected professionals—to submit content for potential inclusion in The Storytelling Book of the Ancient Traveler. James Artimus Owen—author/illustrator of the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica—contributed his brilliant work to jump-start the book with his opening pages. For this, we owe him a HUGE thank you.

P1370690

If selected for the one-of-a-kind, hand-bound, leather volume, your creative work will be published alongside entries from other young creatives and professionals. Simply select one of the items on the Ancient Traveler’s List of Objects below, write a short story or create an illustration following our guidelines, and submit it by email. There is no cost to submit your work. Submissions are due on the first of each month through Jan. 15, 2018.

This “synergy arts” project concept is the brainchild of Joanne de Biasi, who hand made the book (pictured). The project will be brought to fruition through Absolutely Wild! Enchanted Faerie Portals & Other Whimsy, who will auction the completed book to support creative endeavors of young writers and artists. See their list of charities on the AW Web site.

Needed! Creative pros to inspire young writers & artists

Requesting professional creatives’ participation in a unique synergy arts book
to support young writers and artists.
Do good! Please share with the creatives you know.

P1370699We owe HUGE thanks to James Artimus Owen, author/illustrator of the Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica series for contributing his brilliant work (partially shown above) to jump-start our Storytelling Book of the Ancient Traveler.

It took only one small moment for each of us to decide to become a “creative.” Perhaps it involved a teacher or mentor, simple words of advice, or an unexpected opportunity. You can serve as such a catalyst for an emerging young writer or artist through our creative “synergy arts” book project.

Absolutely Wild! invites you to contribute one piece of writing or art to our one-of-a-kind, hand-bound, leather-covered book to benefit emerging young creatives. We are compiling writing and illustrations for The Storytelling Book of the Ancient Traveler with opening pages drawn and written by James.

We are inviting selected professionals like you, and also put out a call to young writers and artists to submit their work. Once all entries are selected and compiled into the original book, we will auction the volume and, if feasible, also print a paperback edition through Amazon.

Absolutely Wild! will use proceeds to benefit young creatives in unique and beneficial ways: perhaps scholarships or internships, or through viable charities supporting creative youth such as 826 National site, Young Authors of Arizona, or the AZ Consortium for the Arts.

You might consider one of these contributions:

  • A simple line or two of advice to inspire young creatives, above your signature.
  • A short story.
  • An illustration.
  • Both a story and an illustration.

Submission guidelines and other details are available on the AbsolutelyWild! “Fantasy With Purpose” webpage. Submissions may be emailed before our first deadline on Oct. 1, 2017. Subsequent entries will be considered in a rolling acceptance process with priority given to early submissions until Jan. 15, 2018.

With appreciation for your consideration and my warmest regards,

P.S.     The “synergy arts” project concept is the brainchild of Joanne de Biasi, and will be brought to fruition through Absolutely Wild! Enchanted Faerie Portals & Other Whimsy, whose mission involves supporting young creatives of all ages.

With gratitude,

Coffee CommuniTea: Festive Cup Coffee, Highlands Ranch, CO

IMG_3760

Today’s Cup o’ Tea
Festive Cup Coffee – Highlands Ranch, CO

Don’t let the small storefront fool you. This charming spot houses not only an excellent and diverse coffee and tea bar, but a sizable and compelling gift and clothing boutique!

Perks (what I really like!)

  • The gift shop brims with wonderful finds: jewelry, clothing, household items, funny/inspirational desk and wall decor.
  • It’s quiet.
  • The comfortable seating and furniture lends well to either work or a “catch-up” with a friend.

IMG_3768Share a Cuppa

I find the owner—Anthony Whitham—his family and staff always kind, thoughtful and helpful.

Lexi (left) helped me on my last visit. She was so accommodating, plus a sweetheart of a person.

What’s Brewing (coffee, tea, food)

In partnership with a local, Colorado-based coffee roaster, Festive Cup offers everything from classic coffee to Frappe Brezzas. Those wanting an alternative to coffee can indulge in “Refresher” smoothies, teas, and other non-coffee alternatives.

My favorite, though… Tea Forté as their tea brand of choice. Per the company’s Web site, they are “known for the variety and unparalleled quality of handcrafted teas, design-driven accessories, exquisite packaging and opulent approach, Tea Forté re-imagines and re-defines the contemporary tea experience by delivering a delighting and luxuriant encounter.” All true, in my estimation.

Percolation Factor (the activity/environment/energy/service)

IMG_3765

Whether you want a place for your bridge club, expect to share a conversation with a loved one, or are looking for that perfect unusual gift that only independent gift stores offer, this is your spot.

It also serves as the perfect getaway for a short respite with a cool refreshing drink in the summer or a warm comforting cuppa in the winter.

The Grind (what I would change)

Nary a thing! I adore visiting this lovely get-away whenever I visit Colorado.

The Grounds (location)

Festive Cup nestles in the corner of an unobtrusive strip mall atop one of the rolling hills in Highlands Ranch—a community in Littleton, CO, of enough size to warrant its own zip code.

……………………

I love connecting people and ideas, so I’ve been creating small villages my entire life. Really, what better places can writers and musicians find to create “village” than independent coffee/tea shops? I wrote most of my Rhythms & Muse novel and Delfaerune Rhapsody series-in-progress in coffee/tea venues, so I found it natural to create this blog. Whether you came here to find a new favorite hangout, or suggest a spot not yet not posted, may you find Coffee CommuniTea exactly to your taste!

Super, short-writing secrets re: magazine publishing

Alliance for Literary Writers, Authors & Yabbering Scribes (ALWAYS)

img_1940
My first foray into short story writing involves writing Faeries’ Tales to accompany hand-sculpted faerie portals. I  can see my tales published in sci-fi/fantasy publications such as Faerie Magazine. Where can you see your short pieces published?

Established writers, would you like to see your short stories, essays, poems, or articles published in magazines? Windy Lynn Harris, founder of Market Coaching for Creative Writers, will give us tips on how to make it happen. At our next gathering, ask her how to categorize your work, write a stand-out letter, format your MS and find hundreds of editors looking for writers like you.

Next gathering:
Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
(ALWAYS typically meets on the second Thursday of the month.)

Where:
Old Spaghetti Factory
